An external exam is an examination written by Concordia students at an external accredited institution outside the Montreal region. This can be approved in exceptional cases. We highly suggest students to write their final exam at Concordia University (especially potential graduates as external exam grades are usually received late); however, in certain cases if you are out of the Montreal region during the time of the exam, you can request to write an external exam.
If you know in advance that you will be out of town on the date of your Final Exam, it is your responsibility to ensure that External Exams will be accepted for your course. You can confirm by consulting the outline or contacting the Department/Professor directly.
Please note that it the responsibility of each student to follow the procedure on how to apply for an External Exam with eConcordia.
Procedure for applying for an External Exam (Please note this can change at anytime and should be verified at the time of application with the External Exams office: external.exams@concordia.ca)
- To apply for an External Exam, there is a processing fee of 20$.
- You will need to verify the list or pre-authorized institutions, if the institution you are planning on completing the Final Exam is not in the list, you will need to have it reviewed and confirmed by Concordia.
- Contact an institution and request to write an external exam.
- The institution must administer the exam on the same date and time it is scheduled at Concordia, taking into account relevant time differences.
- If the external institution cannot administer the exam at the same date and time as Concordia, the student must obtain written authorization from their instructor granting permission for the exam to be proctored at a different date and/or time and email it to external.exams@concordia.ca. *This can delay the status of your request.*
- No change in the scheduled exam date and time will be approved without prior approval from the professor.
- Please note that the professor is NOT obliged to agree to another exam date and time.
- Arrange with the institution for the original copy of the exam to be returned to eConcordia via traceable mail. Students are responsible for the courier fees.
- The invigilator's email address must be one provided by the institution, e.g., JohnDoe@econcordia.ca (no personal email addresses will be accepted)
- Pay all invigilation costs
- Students are responsible for all the fees requested by the institution.
- This includes (and is not limited to)
- All on-site exam invigilating
- Faxing and couriering costs of the original exam
Once you have followed all these steps and your Invigilation Institution has been approved, you will then need to fill out the External Exam request form before the deadline.
The application link is only available once you are registered for an online eConcordia course under the External Exam Tab: (https://www.econcordia.com/my2/ExternalExams/Info.aspx)
